Week 2 (06/10/2024)

Taylor's The Show Graduate Showcase

Me and my friends decided to visit to this showcase because we're curious about our seniors' works and wanted draw inspiration from them.

We then decided to participate in the mural competition because our lecturer encouraged us to, and it was definitely a very fruitful experience for me!

The Mural Competition

We are required to produce an artwork as a team on two pieces of A2 drawing paper, following the theme "Unity Through Diversity". We searched up for inspiration on the internet before the event day so we had a rough idea of what we're going to draw during the competition.

Final Drawing

The concept behind our drawing is to celebrate the unity and interconnectedness of different races across the globe, transcending skin color and cultural boundaries.

We wanted to convey the message that, despite our diverse backgrounds, we are all intrinsically linked by our shared humanity, when the colors of our differences blend, they create a world of peace and harmony.

The Show Graduate Showcase

After the mural competition, I went to the showcase area to look at BDCM and BISD seniors' work. The works for UI/UX caught my attention because I wanted to pursue as an UI/UX designer in the future as well.

I even tried on the VR headset to experience the XR project built by BISD's students, I liked their creative looking interactive spaces.

Reflection

Participating in this mural competition alongside my friends was an incredibly fun and memorable experience. The entire process was filled with laughter at the chaos of trying to complete our artwork within a tight two-hour timeframe.

One of the most meaningful aspects of our collaboration was how inclusive and supportive our team was. Even though one of our teammates came from the computer science degree with no formal training in drawing or design, everyone made sure she felt fully involved. She eagerly contributed by helping us colour in the mural, her participation reminded us that creating art is not just for those with experience but is an accessible and shared endeavour that everyone can enjoy.

Although we didn’t win the competition, the journey was far more valuable than the outcome. Working alongside friends from different backgrounds and seeing the genuine effort everyone put in to help each other really reinforced the theme of "Unity through Diversity." I think it was a real-life example of how diversity enhances collaboration and how when we come together, we are able to create something meaningful.
