Practical

Project 4: Self-Titled

We started by filling in the guideline slide given by Mr. Fauzi. The guideline definitely sped up our self-titled ideation process because it provided clear direction and helped us organize our ideas.

Idea Development

After looking at my references, Mr. Fauzi said to proceed with poster 2's style. I also explored more examples of this kind of surreal, highly saturated, collage-like style on Pinterest.

Sketches

My idea was to create a collage-style poster centered around my own figure to convey the themes of self-control and inner struggles. I opted for a futuristic style so I decided to add elements like laser beam and city buildings to my sketch.

Digitalising

Next, I compiled the photographs and experimented with the composition in Adobe Photoshop, I created two very different styled posters. Mr. Fauzi advised me to proceed with the first digital poster (Digital Poster Progress #1), but suggested adding a video to the background to make it feel less empty.

I cropped my figure out using the curvature pen tool and adjusted the contrast and brightness of each image with the curves tool to make the poster feel more cohesive. Then, I experimented with the composition.

Reflection

During the ideation process for this project, I was given the opportunity to reflect on my passions and what I hope to achieve in the future as a designer. This allowed me to deeply consider what I truly want for myself, both creatively and personally.

Exploring the works of surrealist on Pinterest was an enjoyable and thought-provoking experience. As I looked at each piece, I found myself contemplating the underlying messages and themes, which influenced my own approach. These reflections guided me in determining the style and message I wanted to convey in my work, helping me develop a clearer vision of what I want to express.
