REFLECTION

Through all the shooting and editing practices this semester, I’ve come to realise that good cinematography isn't just about visuals, it's about the synchronisation between sound and visuals. While video composition is important, what stood out most to me was how syncing audio beats with character movement and video transitions can completely change the impact of a scene. This was something I usually paid less attention to, but it became a key takeaway from this module.

Another thing I became more aware of is music copyright and the importance of attribution, something that beginner editors (including me at first) often overlook. I now pay more attention to using royalty-free tracks and giving proper credit.

We also had the chance to handle real production equipment, like DSLR cameras, tripods, boom poles with shotgun microphones, clapperboards, field audio recorders and the lighting gears. Even though we only got hands-on experience with them in one project, it gave me a good introduction to how each tool contributes to the overall workflow of a production.

The tutorials on Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Audition were also really useful. They showed me how powerful these tools are when it comes to trimming, effects and audio syncing. I’ve become more confident switching between them depending on what the scene needs, whether it's sound balancing or adding VFX.

I hope to keep building on what I’ve learned, not just the technical parts, but also how to plan and tell better stories visually and aurally. This module gave me a much stronger foundation in video and sound production and I'm excited to apply that in future design projects.
